I've loved my child right from the start,
A feeling that's filled my entire heart.
I went through the labor and suffered the pain,
For many long hours with nothing to gain.

I've spent sleepless nights being awake,
Though it's been a while my arms they still ache.
I've sat and I've wondered of how she would grow,
The love of my family that she'd come to know.

The sound of her voice as she learns to talk,
Watching her steps as she tries to walk.
I have a child that I really love so,
I am her mother yet nobody knows.

I've spent all these months feeling her grow,
I've lived through it all and have nothing to show.
I don't get invited to chat with young mothers,
Because I don't have a baby like all of the others.

I've got some stretch marks that I'd like to hide,
but I don't have a pram with a baby inside.
The people I've known for so many years,
Avoid me now, which adds to my tears.

I don't know how long I'll be feeling like this,
But one thing I know, my baby I miss.
When Mother's day comes it will be very hard,
I won't have any flowers, not even a card.

And just because she's not here with me,
I still have a daughter I wish I could see.
But one thing I know and this is for sure,
I'll be her mother forevermore!

I am not a fetus, I am a baby
Perfectly formed, but still.

I am not medical waste of no account,
life’s flotsam and jetsam,
a ganglion of cells,
to be discarded.

I was born with a name,
The product of my parents genes,
Their child. But I came without breath,
And so I am not counted. Or acknowledged

Had I taken a breath or made a whimper,
had a beating heart or moved a limb
I would have been called a baby.

To my mother I am her baby.
It’s how she calls out to me when she cannot sleep,
Pleading, imploring, asking, why.....?

Her love transcends time; our bond of life is not broken,
I was here, flesh of her flesh, blood of her blood,
And I will always be.... Her baby.
Two souls... joined for eternity.

Don't think of him as gone away,
His Journey's just begun.Life holds so many facets, This earth is only one.Just think of him as resting, From the sorrows and the tears,In a place of warmth and comfortWhere there are no days and years.Thinking how he must be wishing That we could know today, How nothing but our sorrowsCan really pass away. And think of him as living In the hearts of those he touched,For nothing loved is ever lostAnd he was loved so much.

 My words to death

For my whole life I have feared you
Looked for you at every turn
But my thoughts are fiercely changing
As I gaze upon my daughter's urn

You are just fulfilling your purpose
In my heart this I know
But this time you came too early
A stolen opportunity to blossom, to grow

Shamelessly you strode into
My happy, hopeful life
And sliced right through delicate threads
With the blade of your indifferent knife

I cursed your very existence
Damning you to hell
Then dropped to my knees and prayed
That you'd take me as well

But today I stand here defiantly
Holding firm to my place
Your worst you have already done
Everything else I can face

Because now I see your limits
As surely as I know God above
that even though you steal the breath of life
You are puny and powerless against Love

What Makes A Mother?

I thought of you and closed my eyes; and prayed to God today.
I asked, "What makes a Mother?", and I know I heard him say....
A Mother has a baby, this we know is true.
But God can you be a Mother, when your baby's not with you?

"Yes you can!", He replied with confidence in his voice.
"I give many women babies, when they leave is not their choice.
Some I send for a lifetime; and others for a day-
And some I send to feel your womb, but there's no need to stay."

"I just don't understand this God, I want my baby here.
"He took a breath and cleared his throat; and then I saw a tear.
I wish I could show you, what your child is doing today.
If you could see your child smile with other kids and say,
"We go to earth to learn our lessons of Love and Life and Fear,
My Mommy Loved me oh so much, I got to come straight here..

I feel so lucky to have a Mom, who had so much love for me.
I learned my lesson very quickly, My mommy set me free.
'I miss my Mommy, oh so much but I visit her each day...
when she goes to sleep, on her pillow's where I lay.

I stroke her hair and kiss her cheek; and whisper in her ear,
"Mommy, don't be sad today, I'm your baby and I'm here.
"So you see my dear sweet one, your child is okay.
Your baby is here in my home; And this is where she'll stay.
She will wait for you with me, until your lesson is through.
And on the day that you come home; she'll be at the gates for you.

So, now you see what makes a Mother,
it's the feeling in your heart.
It's the love you had so much of;
right from the very start.
